Critical Incident, Stress Debriefing is usually a one-session group therapy event offered to employees or individuals who have experienced some form of trauma. Office Hours, Location Information.
The 7 steps of the program are the introduction, the facts, thoughts and impressions, emotional reactions, normalization, planning for the future, and disengagement. The therapy is usually given 1-3 days after the traumatic event. Using common sense this therapy seems both beneficial and worthwhile. These are other counseling services I provide. Evidence-based reviews, however, have concluded that CISM is ineffective for primary trauma victims, and should only be used for secondary victims, such as responding emergency services personnel. CISM was never intended to treat primary victims of trauma.
